About proxy-free.com

A free list of public proxy servers, each one checked before it is listed.

proxy-free.com helps you find and evaluate publicly available proxy servers. We collect proxy candidates from public and third-party sources, connect to each one ourselves, and publish the ones that answered, along with their protocol, country, anonymity level, uptime and the time of the last check.

What we do

  • Collect proxy candidates from several public lists and one paid feed.
  • Test every candidate with a real request through the proxy before it is listed.
  • Remove proxies that stop answering, so the list only shows what passed a recent check.
  • Publish searchable HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 lists that you can filter by country and anonymity level.
  • Offer a proxy checker for testing your own proxies and a free API for developers.

How verification works

An open port on its own is never enough. HTTP proxies, and the SOCKS proxies from our paid feed, have to relay a real HTTP request to a test endpoint and return a success response; for the paid feed the response also has to be the exact JSON we asked for, so an address that answers with an error page is treated as dead. SOCKS proxies from two of our other sources are tested by completing the SOCKS handshake and opening a TCP connection through the proxy to a well-known host.

The anonymity level shown for each proxy is the one reported by the list that supplied it; we do not re-test anonymity ourselves at the moment. Elite means no header revealed that a proxy was in the path. Anonymous means the destination could tell a proxy was used but did not receive the real address. Transparent means the real address was passed along. Treat these as labels, not guarantees about how a proxy will behave for you.

Where the proxies come from, and who owns them

We do not own or operate any of the proxy servers in the public list. They are third-party machines that someone else has made publicly reachable. We aggregate them and check them; we cannot see who runs them or what they log. Treat every public proxy as untrusted, and do not send passwords, payment details or anything private through one.

How often the list updates

Each source is fetched and re-checked on a schedule that runs every three hours. A proxy that its source no longer reports, or that has not passed a check in the last twelve hours, is taken off the working list. The Last Checked column on every row shows the actual time of the most recent check for that proxy, which tells you more than any site-wide claim could.

Who runs this

proxy-free.com has been online since 2023 and is run by a small team. The public proxy list is free and needs no account. A paid API with higher quotas is available for developers who need more than the free tier; see the pricing page for details.
