About Our Proxy Checker Tool

Features

  • Support for HTTP, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 proxies
  • Real-time speed and response time testing
  • Country detection and geolocation
  • Anonymity level verification

How It Works

Our proxy checker tool tests each proxy server by attempting to establish a connection and measuring various metrics:

  • Connection success and response time
  • Geographic location of the proxy server
  • Anonymity level (Elite or Anonymous)
  • Protocol support verification

Common questions about checking proxies

Why does a proxy show as dead when it worked a minute ago?

Free proxies are usually someone else's machine that was left open by accident, and they drop off as soon as that gets noticed or the box gets busy. We tested a sample of a thousand public proxies and fewer than a third answered twice in a row an hour apart. A dead result normally means the proxy is genuinely gone, not that the check failed.

What does the anonymity column actually tell me?

Elite means the request arrived without headers that give away that a proxy was involved. Anonymous means the destination could tell a proxy was in the path, even though your own address was not passed along. Neither one hides you from the proxy operator, who sees every request you send through them.

Should I use HTTP or SOCKS?

HTTP proxies only understand web traffic and many cannot carry HTTPS at all. SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 pass any TCP connection through, so they also work for mail clients, game clients and torrent software. SOCKS5 adds authentication and remote DNS lookups. If you paste a proxy on port 1080, 4145 or 5678 it is almost certainly SOCKS, so tick that box before checking.

Why is the response time higher here than the number on the proxy list?

This tool measures the round trip from our server to the proxy and on to the test endpoint. Your own latency will differ, sometimes a lot, because it depends on how far you sit from that proxy. Treat the number as a way to compare proxies against each other rather than as the speed you will get.

Is it safe to put a login through a free proxy?

No. Whoever runs the proxy can read anything that is not encrypted and can see which sites you connect to even when it is. Keep free proxies for things you would not mind a stranger watching, like checking how a page looks from another country or scraping public data.

Why only fifteen proxies at a time?

Each proxy gets a real connection attempt, held open for as long as your timeout allows, and the limit keeps one person's batch from queuing up behind everyone else's. For a bigger list, run it in batches or pull the verified list straight from our free API.
